“Listening” is an artistic and social project that promotes plurality and democratic values in a time of increasing authoritarian tendencies. The focus is on listening: conversations with activists and thinkers will be conducted on site and translated into live drawings and compiled in a publication.
The large-format newspaper also forms the basis for a wall newspaper, which serves as a central element of future exhibitions and continues the project in various locations. With “Listening,” Simona Koch and Lilla von Puttkamer are building an international network of activists, artists and thinkers who strengthen diversity, democratic participation and sustainable forms of expression.

The project is funded by the Umverteilen Foundation, Berlin. It is also supported by the Goethe Center Phnom Penh (Meta-House) and by Stefan Wille Software GmbH who takes care of the project website.

Der Begriff „Grenze“ kann aus verschiedenen Perspektiven betrachtet werden. Wissenschaftlich gesehen sind Grenzen geografische, psychologische oder biologische Trennlinien, die unser Denken und Handeln beeinflussen. Gesellschaftlich betrachtet trennen Grenzen soziale Schichten, Kulturen oder individuelle Lebensrealitäten. Politische Grenzen bestimmen über Migration, Nationalstaatlichkeit und territoriale Zugehörigkeit, während räumliche Grenzen zwischen urbanen und ländlichen Strukturen oder zwischen öffentlichen und privaten Räumen verlaufen. Zeitliche Grenzen zeigen sich in historischen Zäsuren, Erinnerungskultur oder dem Verhältnis von Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft. Künstlerisch betrachtet sind Grenzen sowohl ein inhaltliches als auch ein formales Element, das Wahrnehmung, Perspektive und Interpretation herausfordert.
In monatlichem Wechsel werden an der Fassade des Hauses der Kortum-Gesellschaft vier Videos von Simona Koch, Daniel Burkhardt, Lukas Marxt und Francis Alÿs gezeigt.

Nothing in the world is eternal, everything is subject to change - the "flow of materials", as Deleuze and Guattari call it. Whenever we encounter matter, “it is matter in movement, in flux, in variation.” Nevertheless, people try to fix forms. They create "built environments" - illusions of stability and eternity. But these are also in flux and the components will later become part of other objects and bodies - part of the one stream of life, as Emanuele Coccia describes it in his book "Metamorphoses".

For the opening of the exhibition, this primal principle will be translated into space with a performative installation together with Hilla Steinert.

With the workshop on the city as an organism we change our perspective on our own environment, our everyday life, our way of living, ourselves as individuals and our influence on the whole. The things and worlds we create as humanity co-evolve with the non-human nature that is influenced by them - like a common living being. In these worlds nothing exists independently, as the Buddhist monk Thích Nhat Hanh describes with the term "Interbeing", which he coined. In this workshop we will explore the interplay of elements in the city-organism and reflect on our findings in a collaborative process.

But is such a nature-romantic idea still justified today?
The exhibition "Grün" presents artistic positions that show man in the interplay between a romantic conceptual definition of green and contemporary natural conditions.

A Sense of Relatedness

In their 2022 annual publication “A Sense of Relatedness”, Kunstraum Lakeside investigates an array of different types of relationships: The focus is connecting lines, entanglements, assemblages, networks, or kinships and their underlying mechanisms; it explores encounters between the human and nonhuman, between the material and immaterial, between the organic and technical, and, last but not least, between places and times. In the annual program "A Sense of Relatedness", Kunstraum Lakeside traced the ubiquitous longing for a sense of clarity, comprehensible entities, and predictable outcomes, and contrasted it with images that accommodate the incomplete, diverse, and volatile—they are not images of the either-or but of the as-well-as.

Ausstellung im mp43 Projektraum mit Khmer und deutschen Rezepten und Geschichten. Die Künstlerinnen Vera Lossau und Lilla von Puttkamer recherchierten Kambodscha, über weibliche Identität, Kochen, Heimat, Erinnerungen und Möglichkeiten der Kommunikation von Geschichten, die mit Rezepten verbunden sind. Im Austausch mit Künstlerinnen und anderen Kulturschaffenden vor Ort wurden im März während eines Aufenthaltes in Phnom Penh Deutsche und Khmer Kochrezepte und künstlerische Arbeiten für ein „Artist Cookbook“ gesammelt. Über die Zubereitung von Speisen wurden im Diskurs zwischen den Beteiligten Genderthemen, Rollenmuster und geschichtliche Aspekte der Khmer Kultur verhandelt. Bong – Bong heißt im umgangssprachlichen Khmer Schwester/ Bruder oder Freundin/ Freund.

World made of Flesh

Project Statement @ Parallel Vienna 2022

The idea of parallel universes has long been explored in works of physics, science fiction and metaphysics. The thought that we might be living just one of an infinite number of possible lives aren’t only reserved for "Star Trek," "Spiderman" and "Doctor Who”. Real scientific theory explores, and, in some cases, supports, the case for universes outside, parallel to, or distant from but mirroring our own. Preconceived ideas are debunked, we find a whole new parallel art world in form of NFTs aside from the traditional art market and art institutions that form new structures of distribution, authorship, and the production of value.

This group exhibition aims to converge the existence of different worlds offering technology as portals into “otherness”. This may take on digital formats, mental concepts or integrate old technologies to introduce alternate experiences while connecting to diverse cultural identities. Art practices oscillating between traditional media and virtual realities explore illusionism resp. simulation as a playground of creativity and expanded aesthetics that push the borders of art itself.

The open-air art & science exhibition titled Monuments of Impermanence is a tribute to acts of humankind in nature. The artworks narrate the course of humanity through everyday lives of a local community and through profoundly challenging and sustainable future-oriented questions around ethics of animal farming, equality and hierarchy, and perceptions of the human body.
This international exhibition of art & science set in a national park of the Balaton region, shows multimedial art installations and performances that visualise the course of humanity by using elements of biology, genetics, physics and social sciences.
It contains works of scientific research presented through art, where art leads to discoveries in science, and works that seek answers to critical questions through the sciences. The exhibition creates a picture of the diversity of human activities – it intervenes with our view of the contemporary world.

Interbeing

Natural sciences, like physics, genetics, or biology, as the study of living material, count among the multitude of departure points for Simona Koch. In experimental research setups, ranging from expansive installations to artist books, she traces the living in all of its facets, while continuously generating new working methods and procedures. Like a scientist, she works systematically and reflexively: things as animistic information carriers, which survive numerous human generations; the growth of so-called superorganisms, including complex structures such as cities; universal family trees that collect genomes; terms lent from scientific classification such a “roots”, “heritage”, and “essence”. For Kunstraum Lakeside, Simona Koch has developed the series „Interbeing“.

Im Kunstverein Bochum wird derzeit die Installation "Mycelium of Humans" von Simona Koch gezeigt. Die Künstlerin hat ihre eigenen verwandtschaftlichen Verbindungen recherchiert und übersetzt diese Daten in eine raumgreifende Skulptur.
Dr. Thomas Wiehe ist Professor für Genetik an der Univerität zu Köln und erforscht anhand von mathematischen Modellen und statistischen Methoden Muster der genetischen Variationen innerhalb von Arten. Hierbei handelt es sich um Organismen aus der Tier und Pflanzenwelt.

Installiert im Baumbestand auf den Gründen des Landesklinikums Hollabrunn. Ein Kunstprojekt von Claudia Märzendorfer

Anlässlich des 20-jährigen Jubiläums der Sozialpsychiatrischen Abteilung wurde von Claudia Märzendorfer ein Kunstprojekt für das Landesklinikum Hollabrunn mit vielen Mitwirkenden entwickelt: Die Künstlerin lud eine Gruppe von internationalen bildenden KünstlerInnen, AutorInnen, ArchitektInnen und MusikerInnen ein, um gemeinsam einen aeronautischen Skulpturengarten zu entwerfen. Die Vogelhäuser sind individuelle Beiträge zu einer kollektiven skulpturalen Installation.

The exhibition assembles 20 contemporary, artistic positions, with which a variety of approaches towards time come into effect, either regarding our concept of time or the perception and visualisation of time. Time proves itself as a noticeably open and undefined variable, which for instance is perceived completely different when experienced subjectively or measured with a timepiece instead. Polarities such as steadiness and unsteadiness, acceleration and deceleration as well as immediacy, duration and transience are crucial categories.

Time is a concept which concerns us in both a definite and elementary way. Without the concept of time our existence as well as the events occurring in the world around us wouldn´t be conceivable. Yet at the same time, time is perceived as an abstract and elusive phenomenon with which scientists, thinkers and artists have ever since occupied themselves. Against the backdrop of an accelerating modern age and a global simultaneity which is passed on by the media, questions regarding time seem ever more pressing. What signifies time to us? What does the present mean? How long lasts the now?

The exhibition is based on The Projective Cast, a book published in 1995 by architectural historian Robin Evans, whose goal was to define a new way to explain how we “see” architecture that incorporated the balancing of all sensations (mental, physical and emotional) that underpin the human experience of built structures. In “The Projective Drawing,” Evans’ theory, which is essentially at its core skeptical of drawing, is used to challenge and expand our approach to understanding the medium and how it operates in contemporary culture. Within the striking architecture of the ACFNY, designed in 1992 by Raimund Abraham, the show presents select work by both Austrian and international artists whose pursuits of drawing require us to activate a matrix of complex and untraditional ideas to understand and approach their work.

What image represents Europe? Is it the fall of the Berlin Wall, universal human rights, the European Football Championships and the Eurovision Song Contest? Not since Antiquity has a single image stood for Europe. Today, Europe is a multifaceted mosaic that, despite tectonic tensions beneath the surface, is no longer at risk of breaking apart. This is the thesis underlying the exhibition, which presents over 100 paintings, drawings, photographs, videos and installations by some 60 modern or contemporary artists. They encounter literary and political statements by well-known figures in an exploration of Europe as peace project.

Economies, Performances and Technologies of Migration Control

The Art of Bordering is an art-science event merging an academic conference with an exhibition in order to discuss the material and symbolic construction of the Mediterranean as a border zone as well as the governance and politicization of migration control within the EU. During three days, Italian, French, German and British academics, journalists and artists debate how technological innovation, geopolitical conflicts and socio-economic inequalities have transformed both migration flows and the material, political and symbolic dimensions of borders in the 21st century.
The Art of Bordering will compare the different and overlapping ways in which art, technology and the social sciences address contemporary bordering dynamics. This strategic comparison aims to highlight the different and interrelated ways in which borders have become strategic places for the performance and observation of the symbolic representations, political agencies and governmental techniques at work in contemporary neoliberal societies.

Kunstverein Ingolstadt – Galerie im Theater

Der Kunstverein Ingolstadt e.V. zeigt zusammen mit dem Stadttheater Ingolstadt die Bildende Künstlerin Simona Koch mit der Ausstellung ORGANISMS.
Im Zentrum steht die inszenierte Begrünung des Stadttheaters und seinem Vorplatz nach der Vorlage eine Fotomontage aus Simona Kochs Werkserie „STADT“, in der sie das leblose Grau unserer Städte durch wuchernde Natur und blühende Gärten ersetzt.

Im Kunstverein werden weitere Aspekte von Simona Kochs Arbeit gezeigt, die unter Einsatz verschiedener Medien ihre Faszination für die Spielarten des Lebendigen zeigt. Woher kommt das Leben und wohin wird es sich entwickeln, wie stehen die Lebewesen miteinander in Verbindung und welche Rolle spielt der Mensch in diesem Gefüge? Mit ihren Arbeiten macht Simona Koch das Unsichtbare sichtbar – gezeichnete Hautlandschaften – Fundstücke des größten Organismus der Erde – filigrane, farbige Zeichnungen die zeigen, welche Ästhetik das Innere von Lebewesen birgt sowie der Blick auf den Menschen selbst als Organismus, wie er unablässig Grenzen durch die Welt zieht.

Im Anschluss findet um 20 Uhr ein Theaterspaziergang statt, mit dem die Spielzeit „Ins Offene“ des Stadttheaters eröffnet wird. Die Arbeit von Simona Koch am Theatervorplatz ist Teil des Eröffnungsprogramms.

Im Zeitalter der geschwindigen Geschwindigkeit, des immer Präsenten, stets Abrufbaren und permanent Neuen wird die Notwendigkeit des Erinnerns obsolet. Einerseits wird alles als erinnerungswürdig erachtet, geteilt, gespeichert, archiviert und geht doch andererseits im Datenmeer verloren. Die Ausstellung „Ich kann mich nicht erinnern.“ begibt sich auf die Suche. Sie verfolgt Spuren von Geschichten, Andenken, Momenten. Es wird ein Blick in die Vergangenheit gewagt, der jedoch nicht mahnend zurück fällt, sondern eher ein Besinnen einleitet. Acht Künstler werden mit ihren verschieden Positionen gezeigt. Ganz bewusst wurde für diese thematische Gruppenausstellung der Projektraum Historischer Keller als Ausstellungsraum gewählt. Bekanntermaßen wird in einem Keller gelagert und verstaut. Die Gemäuer an sich könnten höchstwahrscheinlich Abend füllende Geschichten erzählen. Nicht allein diese örtliche Assoziation versetzt den Besucher in eine Stimmung von Rückblende und Nostalgie; auch die verwinkelten Gänge, Nischen und die kleinen Räume bewirken eine Form der Entschleunigung. Der Ausstellungsbesuch wird so zu einer Suche nach den verdrängten und vergessenen Geheimnissen; nach den zensierten und korrigierten Erzählungen.

Open Culture – eine offene Kultur, zugängliche kulturelle Güter und Information, kulturelles Angebot für jedermann/frau frei zugänglich – ein utopischer Gedanke? Wie reflektieren wir Kulturrezeption und Kulturproduktion? Welchen Einfluss haben digitale Kulturwarendistribution
wie Filesharing oder die Komplettüberspielung ganzer Film- und Musikarchive auf Wechselfestplatten? Und wie stehen dem wachsenden Publikum die KünstlerInnen und ProduzentInnen gegenüber, welche (Überlebens-)Strategien haben sie?

Wie kann freie Kultur funktionieren, wenn dies doch zugleich bedeutet, die eigene Kulturproduktion freizugeben? Zunächst möchten wir uns Klarheit darüber zu verschaffen, welcher Begriff von Kultur (und Freiheit) unserem Anspruch auf freien Zugang zu dieser zugrunde liegen soll, wie er sich in traditionelle Kunstauffassungen fügt und wo er sich gegen diese sperrt.

Wir möchten bei paraflows .8 OPEN CULTURE künstlerische Ansätze diskutieren, die sich mit der Produktion, Verteilung und Konsumierung kultureller Ressourcen beschäftigen. Wie kann eine offene Kulturgemeinde funktionieren? Welche Experimente gibt es, welche Ideen?

More than a mere cartographical project, antiAtlas takes an innovative approach to State frontiers, whether terrestrial or maritime, aerial or virtual, and the way in which people interact with them in the 21st century. The AntiAtlas of border initiative will consist of two interlinked exhibitions. The first will take place in Aix-en-Provence at the Musée des Tapisseries from 1 October to 3 November 2013. The second will take place in Marseille at La Compagnie creative arts centre from 13 December to 1 March 2014
These two exhibitions present artworks inspired by the collective energies of humanities and science researchers and artists. Visitors will be offered a variety of ways for analyzing and participating as they enter a transmedia documentary space and participate in hands-on exhibits in this presentation of innovative artistic and transdisciplinary artworks. Displays include photos and videos contributed by the general public and migrants with their impressions of approaching and crossing frontiers.
The two exhibitions will present creations and innovative work performed by social scientists who have collaborated with hard scientists and artists. The exhibitions will provide several levels of reading and forms of participation. Not only visitors will be able to contemplate art and transdisciplinary work, but they will also be able to make use of transmedia documentation and participate in experiments. They will get in close interaction with robots, drones, video games and specific devices. The objective is to challenge the contemplative relation between visitors and objects proposed in the exhibition. The exhibition will thus help visitors to experience to what extent they are themselves directly affected by the changes at borders in the 21st century.

Auch die dritte Spielzeit unter Intendant Knut Weber startet das Stadttheater Ingolstadt nicht im Theater, sondern in der Stadt. Unter dem Titel »Die Geheimen Gärten von Ingolstadt« wird der gesamte Künettegraben bespielt, von der Pionierbrücke bis zum Freibad.
Der bekannte Raum wird künstlerisch durch Skulpturen, Musik, Video- und Lichtkunst, Lesungen und Szenen in eine unbekannte, geheimnisvolle Welt verwandelt. Künstler wie Simona Koch, Jan Neumann und Markus Jordan wirken ebenso an der Komposition des Abends mit wie das »Georgische Kammerorchester« (GKO), Chöre und Vereine der Region sowie die Schauspieler des Stadttheaters. Thematisch kreist die diesjährige Stadtinszenierung um Natur, Ordnung und Chaos: dem Kreislauf des Lebens und Zivilisation.

BAYERISCHE KUNSTFÖRDERPREISE 2012 IN DER SPARTE BILDENDE KUNST

Bayerische Kunstförderpreise 2012 in der Sparte Bildende Kunst an Michael Biber, Beate Engl, Simona Koch, Clea Stracke & Verena Seibt – Spezialpreis für Performancekünstlerinnen Leonie Felle und Anna Witt

Die Bayerischen Kunstförderpreise 2012 in der Sparte Bildende Kunst gehen an den Maler Michael Biber, die Bildhauerin Beate Engl, Simona Koch sowie das Künstlerduo Clea Stracke und Verena Seibt. Den diesjährigen Spezialpreis „Performance“ teilen sich Leonie Felle und Anna Witt. Die Preise sind mit jeweils 5.000 Euro dotiert.

Der in München lebende Maler Michael Biber veranschaulicht die künstlerische Haltung eines Forschenden. Seine Bilder zeigen nach Meinung der Jury, dass auch scheinbar gegensätzliche ästhetische Bereiche nicht voneinander zu trennen sind. In seinem Werk überlagern sich das Figurative und das Abstrakte, das Reale und das Fiktive.

Die Arbeiten der aus Regen stammenden Bildhauerin Beate Engl sind meist ortsspezifisch und verwenden wiederholt die Elemente Bewegung, Licht und Audio. Charakteristisch für Beate Engls Projekte ist aus Sicht der Jury, dass sie künstlerische Fiktion und politische Kritik am aktuellen Kunstbetrieb auf spielerische und humorvolle Weise verbinden.

Die Installationen von Simona Koch aus Neustadt an der Aisch stellen nach Meinung der Gutachter in ihrer Ruhe und Langsamkeit einen Gegenpol zu unserer immer lauter und schneller werdenden Welt dar. Mit ihrer zur Perfektion getriebenen Bildsprache und ihren anspruchsvollen Themen zeige die Künstlerin eine beein­drucken­de Reife und Eigenständigkeit. Um ihre konzeptionellen Arbeiten zu visualisieren, bedient sich Simona Koch verschiedener Medien.

Die aus Dachau und Berlin stammenden Künstlerinnen Clea Stracke und Verena Seibt befassen sich in ihren Arbeiten mit Wahrnehmung, Emotion und gesellschaftlicher Befindlichkeit. Räume und Orte werden dabei – so die Jury – zu Bühnen, die zugleich den Rahmen für ihre künstlerischen Umsetzungen darstellen. Auf der Suche nach dem gangbaren Weg zwischen Fiktion und Realität entstehen aus Sicht der Jury Kunstwerke, die faszinieren und den Betrachter mit seinen eigenen Gedanken an der Suche teilhaben lassen.
In diesem Jahr verleiht Kunstminister Wolfgang Heubisch zudem einen Spezialpreis „Performancekunst“, den sich Leonie Felle aus Lindenberg im Allgäu und Anna Witt aus Dorfen teilen:
Leonie Felle widmet sich in ihren Musik-Performances und bildhauerischen Arbeiten ihrem Grundthema, der Zeit: Gegenwart und Zukunft, Erinnerung und Sehnsucht schlagen sich unmittelbar in der subjektiven Erfahrung und Wahrnehmung nieder. Leonie Felle gelingt es nach Ansicht des Gutachterausschusses, eine einzigartige Atmosphäre zu schaffen, die den Betrachter emotional einbezieht.

Die Performance-Kunst von Anna Witt greift gezielt in den öffentlichen Raum ein. Mit unvoreingenommenem Interesse an ihrem Gegenüber schafft Anna Witt spielerische Situationen und ermöglicht gemein­schaft­liche Interaktion, so die Jury. Durch unerwartete Konfrontation bringe die Künstlerin Menschen dazu, sich nicht nur mit ihrem Umfeld, sondern auch mit ihren eigenen Einstellungen auseinanderzusetzen.

Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis
Der Bayerische Kunstförderpreis wird jährlich in den vier Sparten „Bildende Kunst“, „Darstellende Kunst“, „Musik und Tanz“ sowie „Literatur“ vergeben. Der Preis soll junge, begabte Künstlerinnen und Künstler auf ihrem eingeschlagenen Weg bestärken und zur weiteren künstlerischen Entwicklung ermutigen. Die Preisträger müssen in Bayern leben und dürfen höchstens 40 Jahre alt sein. Voraussetzung ist zudem, dass sie über eine außergewöhnliche Begabung verfügen und durch herausragende Leistungen hervorgetreten sind. Die Preise werden vom Bayerischen Staatsminister für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst auf Vorschlag einer Jury vergeben. Kunstminister Wolfgang Heubisch wird die Bayerischen Kunstförderpreise in allen vier Sparten am 28. November 2012 in der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München überreichen.

Die Künstlerin Simona Koch interessiert sich für die Spielarten des Lebendigen. Woher kommt das Leben und wohin entwickelt es sich, wie stehen die Lebewesen miteinander in Verbindung und welche Rolle spielt der Mensch in diesem Gefüge?
In dem Kompendium "Organisms" fasst Simona Koch ihre Arbeiten zu Formen des Lebendigen zusammen und entwirft damit einen eigenständigen kleinen Kosmos. Die Publikation gliedert sich in drei Kapitel: Vererbungen und die Verbindung von Allem; die verschiedenen Spielarten des Lebendingen sowie die Bezüge des Menschen innerhalb dieses Geflechts. Das Buch ist durchzogen mit zahlreichen Abbildungen, sowie mit Texten eingeladendener AutorInnen, die sich auf theoretische Weise mit dem beschäftigen, was Simona Kochs Arbeiten künstlerisch spiegeln.

Als „Debütanten“ stellen sich einmal jährlich zwei hervorragende Absolventen der Akademie vor. 
Die Professorinnen und Professoren der Nürnberger Kunsthochschule wählten 2012 Simona Koch und Meng Yang für die Debütantenförderung des Freistaats Bayern aus.

Meng Yang, Meisterschülerin bei Heike Baranowsky, arbeitet in den Bereichen Malerei, Fotografie, Video- und Soundinstallationen. Ihre Bildsprache ist beeinflusst von chinesischer traditioneller Kunst, die sie faszinierend mit zeitgenössischen Themen vermischt.

Die konzeptionellen Arbeiten und Artistic-Research Projekte der Medienkünstlerin Simona Koch bezaubern durch Ruhe und Klarheit und öffnen dem Betrachter eine Tür in sein Inneres. Die Meisterschülerin bei Ottmar Hörl zeigt einen Einblick in ihre Welt der Organismen von Hautlandschaften bis hin zu universellen Stammbäumen.

KASSELER DOKFEST / MONITORING

The construction, or rather, the constructedness of the reality we live in is one of the central motives of the sixteenth edition of Monitoring.

Among the emerging themes this year are the self-understanding and self-representation of artists and their working conditions in today’s media landscape, as evident, often with a self-ironic twist, in the works by Marko Schiefelbein (I can. You can.), Hein-Godehart Petschulat (Die Wand), or Kristin Meyer (la la la), and our slightly disturbed yet romanticizing relation to the natural world and the will to preserve, control or imitate it via technical means: Pim Zwier (Atemlos), Philipp Artus (Snail Trail), and Tilmann Aechtner (Avatare).

A constant virulent topic is the individual and its position in relation to the pressuring economical and political conditions of a rapidly changing world. Abstractions such as the financial crisis are rendered human on the example of Greece in Florian Thalhofer’s multilayered interactive video installation Das Geld und di e Griechen, and Clarisse Hahn focuses on the female body as a tool of resistance (Our Body is a Weap on). Conflating fact and fiction, Henrike Naumann imagines home videos by the three teens that formed the “Zwickauer Terrorzelle” in 1992 – and what they might have been like under different conditions (Tria ngular Stories). Taiki Sakpisit reflects on the complex condition of a whole nation in a post-traumatic state in epic cinematic images (A Rip e Volcano), while Steffen Köhn applies documentary strategies to capture encounters between divided postcolonial realities in the two-channel installation A Tale of Two Islands.

The technique of animation is explored via different analogue and digital means in the works of Simona Koch (Borders) and Dennis Stein-Schomburg (A Kind of Sad Story), as well as in Oli Sorenson’s abstract Op art light projection antimap . Other artists apply film historical references to address current sociological phenomena, as in Emanuel Mathias’ film about Turkish female taxi drivers (Nebahats Schwest ern), Francis Hunger’s film-analytical examination of mass scenes directed by Dziga Vertov (Tolpa), or Sascha Pohle’s homage to Chris Marker and Alain Resnais (Stat ues Also Die). Zooming in and out between macro and micro perspectives, the private and the political, fiction and documentary, Monitoring presents a vibrant spectrum of contemporary approaches in time-based audiovisual media.
