With the transfer of genetic information from generation to generation we are imperceptively in connection with the past and with all humans that are living today – like a mycelium.
With the series “Human Fabric” I am showing a tiny section of this network of relations by researching my own familial connections – with over 2000 people so far.
Human Fabric #2 is an object knotted with yarns in makramé-technique, containing all direct forefathers that I was able to research till now – with 119 individuals in 14 generations. The strands are winding in helix form from the past, generation by generation, until today where they end in a final knot that unites all of the yarns.
The drawing of a family tree serves as construction plan.
