FOR ENGLAND´S SAKE

Audio installation in the Anti-War Museum, Berlin, 2007

4 speakers | players | benches | window film

Losing a person as a result of war is cruel and unnecessary. Those inscriptions originating in times of war were selected from the collection of epitaphs (Loved Ones 3) for the exhibition in the Anti-War Museum. The inscriptions are heard quietly whispered from the four corners of the room.

SELECTION OF EPITAPHS:

For England´s sake

Wenn Liebe könnte Wunder tun und Tränen Tote wecken,

dann würde Dich mein lieber Sohn,

nicht kühle Erde decken.

far away he fought and died

his mothers and his countrys pride

Man liebt zweimal.

Das erste Mal in der Wirklichkeit.

Das zweite Mal in der Erinnerung.

Mit Gott in´s Feld.

Im Feld zu Gott!

Ich muß fort von den Wegen der Erde

und den Weg zu den Sternen suchen.

I thank my God upon every rememberance of you
